Wat Phra That Doi Wao

1 review of Wat Phra That Doi Wao

Wat Phra That Doi Wao of Mae Sai

This small but interesting temple is located at the top of a hill behind the Mae Sai border market. To get to it, stand in front of the border, and turn left into the closest lane. Cross the covered market, climb the hill, and the stairs and you arrive at the Doi Wao Temple. It is small and there is little that makes it stand out in the temple itself, but in the complex there are several things to note: A statue of King Naresuan, famous for defeating several Burmese invasions, and heir to the Crown Prince of Burma, in a duel. As if the thing was not clear, they have put behind the stupa, a statue of a giant scorpion, brandishing its claws open to Tachilek, in the neighboring country. Apart from this, the views are spectacular. View of Mae Sai (Thailand) and Tachilek (Myanmar). Looking west, you'll see a nice shiny white building built of marble, this is the Thamphajoen Temple which is located in the bottom of the hill.
