1 review of Yasaka Koshin-do Temple

A small temple

The most striking thing about this small temple are the colourful pendants, kukurizaru, images depicting monkeys with colourful bodies and white heads. In the traditions of China and Japan, the figure of the monkey is very important. In fact, this temple is one of the few temples of Koshin-do (庚申 道), which still remain in Japan. Koshin-do is a form of the Shinto religion with Taoist influences, in which the monkey is very important. You can find this colourful place on the way up to Kiyomizu from the neighbourhood of Gion.
