    Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
We were touring Asia on our honeymoon and this hotel was the first place we stayed. It's just wonderful. It's beautiful, has great location, a wonderful decor, is spacious and beautiful. The only downside was that the food wasn't for our taste. But still, it's worth going and returning!

    Evason Ana Mandara Nha Trang
    Resorts in
    Nha Trang
This fantastic hotel by the Evason chain is located along the shores of Nha Trang beach and is where we chose to take mid-trip break. Honestly, the three days we spent there were great. Our receptionist showed us around the hotel and explained what everything was. He told us just to ask for him if we needed anything at all. The Ana Mandara is composed of small villas located just steps from the sea. The rooms have everything including outdoor jacuzzis that are shielded from the curious stares of passersby. The bed was certainly the largest we have ever slept in. We also had sunbeds, umbrellas and towels. If we wanted anything, all we had to do was raise a little flag and they brought it right to us. The white-sand beach is private and solely for the use and enjoyment of guests. The beach was great, yes, but the massive infinity pools were even better. What really won us over, though, was the cuisine and cocktails, some of which were among the strangest and most delicious I've ever tried. Imagine a Bloody Mary made with sake and wasabi or a Mojito with pink champagne. Dinner was tremendous. The hotel has a pier on the beach where we enjoyed a romantic candlelit dinner. It was a blast. The only thing was that we couldn't try was the legendary Sixsense spa because it was overrun with other patrons. However, we had a gym, game room, and tennis court practically to ourselves. Nha Tran and the Ana Mandara have earned a special spot in our memories.

    Caravelle Saigon hotel
    Hotels in
    Ho Chi Minh
Caravelle Hotel, with its Italian marble facade and bulletproof glass windows, became the best hotel in Vietnam and one of the most popular in Southeast Asia almost 50 years ago. After the liberation of Saigon in 1975, the hotel was purchased and operated by the Vietnamese government as the Hotel Independence. In 1998, it returned to its old name, and is once again considered the best hotel in town. The famous terrace bar is still standing, offering the best views of the city, and serving their famous cocktails. The rooms are great - the biggest beds I've ever seen, with comfortable mattresses and all the details and luxuries you could imagine. It has a great location, right in the centre next to the Opera House and across from the Hotel Continental, setting of the film The Quiet American. It celebrated its 50th birthday in May, 2009.

Hoi An Swiss-Belhotel Golden Sand Resort & Spa
    Hotels in
    Hoi An
This large, coastal 5-star hotel is quite far from the town of Hoi An, but it has a shuttle service to the city at certain times. You can also take a cheap taxi outside of operating hours. The rooms are large and comfy, and the bathroom is great, too. It is made up of several buildings in a beautiful garden, but if anything stands out about the hotel, it's the vast pool (150 metres long) and the private beach.

La Residence Hue Hotel & Spa - MGallery by Sofitel
    Hotels in
    Hue
Hotel La Residence was a former Governor's residence. It has been transformed into a hotel with a French colonial style. Its location, central and on on the banks of Perfume River, makes it ideal for walking and for the 'required' visits in Hue. Its rooms are spacious and cozy, equipped with all the details you expect in a hotel of this category. The restaurant has large windows overlooking the river and a cuisine half way between Vietnamese and French. It is excellent. They organize romantic dinners on a boat on the Perfume River or on one of the hotel balconies overlooking the river.

    InterContinental Hanoi Westlake hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
Almudena sums it up very well! If I had to point out a downside, it'd be that the wifi didn´t reach the room and there were many mosquitos from the lake. Still totally recommendable. The buffet was a luxury! The service excellent. Also you can change money at reception with good conditions!

    Sheraton Hanoi Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
While in Hanoi, we stayed at this hotel. The hotel is located on a lake, and is only 10 minutes from the city center, and half an hour from the airport. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully decorated, in addition to good service with attention to detail (in-room newspaper, fruit, tea and coffee, bathrobe, etc.). Since it was the celebration of Tet (New Year), the lobby, restaurant, bar and other public areas of the hotel were decorated with the typical party decorations. In the restaurant, there is a nightly buffet that offers exquisite cuisine, with lots of seafood and a large selection of both Western and Vietnamese food. However, the best of all was definitely the big glass window from which you could enjoy the beautiful views of the city.

Thanh Binh III - Serene Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hoi An
One of the best things about Hội An is its wide variety of quality hotels. It’s very possible to get a room at a hotel with a pool, breakfast buffet, and comfy rooms with large bathrooms and balconies for prices that are unimaginable in other parts of the world (perhaps only Bali rivals Hội An in terms of price). This was our case at the Than Binh III Hotel. The breakfast was amazing and we had eggs, fruit, cereal, croissants, juice and tea. The pool was very nice and being able to have a mid-day swim in the heat of Hội An was a real luxury. It was the low-season so we got a considerable discount. We only paid 270,000 VND (about $15) for our double room with buffet breakfast for two. I’d imagine the price goes up during the rest of the year.

    Sofitel Saigon Plaza hotel
    Hotels in
    Ho Chi Minh
This hotel is situated in the center of the city, near the Cathedral of Notre Dam, on a very wide avenue. It is a modern hotel, equipped with everything you could possibly need. It has two great restaurants, a gym, spa and pool on the 18th floor offering great views of the city. The rooms are very spacious as was the bathroom, which like most of the 5 star hotels in Vietnam has a bath and shower. The hotel staff are very friendly and willing to help.

    Victory Star Cruise hotel
    Hotels in
    Hạ Long
This boat was launched in 2009 and, as with all boats that sail [poi=163]Ha Long Bay[/poi], it's a reproduction of a traditional Vietnamese boat. This particular one is quite large and has 32 rooms. The cabins are a good size (considering it's a boat) and have fully equipped bathrooms and terraces where you can enjoy the beautiful views. The dining room is on the third floor and the fourth floor is a terrace with sun loungers so you can enjoy the scenery. This boat is run by a Frenchman who greets you and gives you explanations of the tour, both in English and French. He will explain the activities organized on the boat, cooking classes, tai chi, tour boats, kayaks etc...

The price is very cheap for the size and quality of the rooms. You can stay there for less than 10€ a night. It's pretty centrally-located and they organize day trips and city tours. If you book in advance, they have a free shuttle service. Like most Vietnamese, the owners are very friendly.

A-Z Queen Salute Café Travel. hotel

    Hanoi
A coffee and an unpretentious restaurant located in the historic center of Hanoi. It offers a great price for tours to Halong Bay and elsewhere. They also sell bus passes to travel from Hanoi to Saigon in various journeys with flexible days. It has a cyber cafe and the bedroom accommodation is very cheap. For the most demanding they have a 2 star hotel with double rooms for about 25 €.

A small hotel with about 12 rooms, nice staff and reasonable prices. In low season you can get a room for €6. You can eat really well here and the reception staff are more than happy to help you hire a motorcycle or scooter if you want to take a trip to the cave or the Cuc Phuong National Park. It's about two hours from Hanoi by bus

    Nha Trang
This is one of the hotels with the best price-quality ratio in Vietnam and, with a little haggling, you can get a room with AC and TV for 5€. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. The only downside is that the hotel can make you feel a bit of vertigo it's a very high, narrow building (as is common in Vietnam) and can give the impression that you can collapse at any time.

    Sunshine 2 Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
The Sunshine Hotels are a chain of hotels in Hanoi, I think there are three, but I'm not sure about that. In an attack of originality the hotels are called Sunshine, Sunshine 2, and Sunshine 3. In this case I'll be talking about Sunshine 2. Located in central Hanoi and at about the price of 15 USD (yum). The rooms had no extra amenities: there was a bed, coffee, a bathroom and of course, air conditioning. To connect to the Internet, you can do it from the front or from the hotel cafe (which also has an entrance from the street). Is the typical hotel to go backpacking through a country that can be quite economical if you you plan well.

    Asia Queen Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
This small hotel has the advantage of being in the heart of the Old Quarter but in a very quiet alley. The Queen Hotel So Hotel has enormous double rooms with air conditioning and hot water, with a starting price of 15 USD, you can get down to 12 USD in low season. They provide a basic breakfast of fried eggs + juice + toast. It has 3 PC's with free internet access and free WiFi coverage to rooms on the first floor. In Reception there is good tourist information about Hanoi and elsewhere in Vietnam. The Asia Queen Hotel closes at night, like almost all hotels in Hanoi and Vietnam in general, but just ring the bell to get somebody to let you in. We stayed at another hotel in Hanoi called Hoan Kiem Lake Hotel. I do not recommend sleeping in this hotel as we had a rather unpleasant experience with the staff there. Note: Prices are for May 2009

    Mellow Guesthouse
    Hostels in
    Mui Ne
This guesthouse, run by an Australian (Paul) and his Vietnamese wife, is one of the cheaper options of Mui Ne. On the main road of Mui Ne, near the Sinh Cafe, all of its rooms were renovated in May 2009, so it is possible that prices from when I was there have changed. Then, it cost 108,000 VND or about €5 for a double room with bathroom. They have a very original pool table and restaurant with interesting offers for breakfast. They rent bikes for $6 and also have a surf shop, and offer surfing lessons and kite surfing. In short, a very good low cost option for Mui Ne. Paul_clayton@hotmail.Com

    Golden Star Hotel
    Hotels in
    Ho Chi Minh
A & EM is a famous chain of Vietnamese hotels that are small and affordable. I stayed in one of the many that are in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The rooms are clean and meet the needs of the traveler, but they are small and there weren´t many luxuries that one might expect. They are often in different locations in centric areas. There is internet in the rooms and wired computers in the lobby and there are also "Business" rooms (are twice as expensive but are exterior, making them larger and brighter). An average room costs 20-25Euros per night and the "business" about 40, if you book several rooms for several days you can renegotiate the price, but given the good value for money, that´s usually not a problem.

    Park Hyatt Saigon hotel
    Hotels in
    Ho Chi Minh
What I liked most about Saigon was this hotel. A part of the Park Hyatt chain, the place is very nice. It has a very nice lounge with music, and a bar open until 2 am with a DJ, a snack menu and cocktails. The restaurant Square One is very good and has a great variety of food on the menu. The rooms start at 34 square meters and are beautiful - wooden floors, marble bathrooms, very clean and fully equipped with an all the good stuff (40-inch LCD TV, air conditioning, hairdryer, morning newspaper, etc.) Highly recommended.

    Thai Son 2 Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
When I was in Hanoi I stayed at this hotel and through the website Agoda, I got a standard room for $19. It is more expensive than a hostel, but its has a slightly higher quality. Since I spent several nights out touring Halong and Sapa, I had to stay in two different rooms which were more or less the same. It was clean and simple, and despite not having a window, the bed was really great. There was air conditioning and it included breakfast, the best part of the hotel. It is buffet style and serves ready-to-order dishes like eggs and pho. One of the drawbacks is that the cheaper rooms do not have elevator access. And though there was WiFi in the rooms , it was very unreliable. They offer airport pickup service, for a fee. All in all, it is n acceptable mid-priced hotel.

    Thien Thanh Boutique Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hoi An
This hotel is a little more expensive than others in Vietnam but given the other prices of Hoi An, I think these ones were pretty good. There are rooms for $25 or $30. The higher prices ones overlook the pool and the rice fields. The rooms are very large and have a small balcony. Air conditioning, satellite TV, computers and wifi are included in the rooms. There´s also a small pool with beautiful views. Breakfast is also included in the price but isn´t that great since it´s only a dish and a drink.

    Thien Hong hotel
    Hotels in
    Ho Chi Minh
Like many houses in Ho Chi Minh, and throughout Vietnam, Thien Hong was made into a kind of small hotel. It is quite new and with well-equipped rooms, and it is cheap. In 2009 I ended up paying € 7 night for a single room (with hot water, fan, bathroom and refrigerator). It is in the area of accommodation, restaurants, cafes and travel agencies near the area where buses leave backpackers. It was in one of those alleys, almost impassable, and almost pedestrian, connecting a wide street with another. Tad hard to find, but you can ask. Worth it just for the everyday life near these streets.

    Phoenix 74 Hotel

    Ho Chi Minh
This was one of the best hotels of the many I visited in Ho Chi Minh. Since many of the hotels are very similar, we basically chose this one for the price. The rooms were restored and had a retro decor with upcycled furniture. They´re more than complete with everything you´d need. The service is also very good. Free wifi and a travel agency are additional perks. A single room costed $8USD in 2009.

May De Ville Old Quarter Hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
This hotel is conveniently located for walking to all the Old Quarter of Hanoi. It is walking distance from Hoan Kiem Lake and just outside the door you are greeted with all the chaos and noise of Hanoi. The rooms are quite nice, fairly contemporary décor and a spa tub. It has wifi area and we even had a computer with free internet in the room itself. The staff and service are good. You can even leave the suitcase at reception during the days you're going to make trips to other areas like Sapa or Halong and take only the essentials so you do not have to carry everything. The only downside, which is quite important - when we were having breakfast one of my traveling companions saw a rat crawl under the tables. Given that it is a country where they eat them ... it perhaps escaped from the kitchen!. A great little hotel(apart from the rat)

HALONG BAY - JASMINE CRUISES hotel
    Hotels in
    Hanoi
You can visit Vietnam without going to Halong Bay, one of the most spectacular places I've been to. Legend has it that the bay was created when a dragon fell into the sea, after falling it wagged his tail and it hit the ground. The most common is to go from Hanoi and spend a a couple nights at one of the many boats. After much research I chose this company and I'm sure it's the best. All the boats are beautiful, with lovely and spacious cabins. There are massages, and at night they have a BBQ on deck that is included in the price. The boat makes many stops to swim and explore caves.
