Private Medieval Castles Tour

Your day will begin with a hotel pick-up and private luxury transportation to the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama Mountains. The first stop of the day will be the New Castle of Manzanares el Real, also known as the Castle of the Mendoza. Located in the charming mountain town of Manzanares el Real, this 15th-century fortress is widely considered the best-preserved medieval castle in the province of Madrid.

Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a guided visit of both the medieval ramparts and the Renaissance-era palace in the interior. As you walk the castle's halls and galleries, you'll marvel at its delicate period furniture, hand-carved ceilings and collection of exquisite tapestries. You’ll also learn the history of the powerful Mendoza clan who built the castle as a sign of their wealth and power and the various films that have been shot at the castle including Charlton Heston’s classic El Cid.

During the visit, you'll also be able to walk the castle walls to see their distinctive decorative spheres, a hallmark of Isabelline Gothic architecture, and enjoy the beautiful views over the Santillana Reservoir and the rugged landscapes of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

The next castle of the day will be the iconic Alcázar of Segovia. This 12th-century fortress' fairytale-like appearance, strategic location atop a rocky promenade and rich history have made it one of the most famous and visited castles in the country.

With your private guide, you'll tour the interior of the Alcázar to visit the Throne Room, the Hall of Kings and the private chambers of the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand II and Isabella of Castile. The interior of the castle features beautiful Mudéjar architecture (the name given to the artistic style of Moorish converts after the Christian Reconquista), coffered ceilings and an impressive collection of medieval armor and weaponry.
