About AirAsia

AirAsia is a pioneering Malaysian low-cost airlines operating dozens of international flights through its subsidiaries in the Philippines, Thailand, India, and Indonesia. AirAsia has mastered the art of seat pricing and aircraft turnaround times and has thus been able to offer some of the absolute lowest fares on the market. Despite the heavy criticism often lobbed at European low-cost airlines, AirAsia has enjoyed surprisingly positive reviews from flyers who praise the company's unbeatable fares and pleasant service. The AirAsia website is available in English and, as is the case with most low-cost carriers, is based around an online booking tool (which also lets users search for rental cars and hotels to combine with their flight) and display of the best flight deals currently offered by the company. There are clear sections in the header which let users check in online or view a variety of travel information topics such as flight status or the company's baggage allowance policy. Currently, the company's checked baggage fee depends on the cities of arrival and departure, but guests can expect to pay around $30.00 for the first checked bag. However, AirAsia does allow travelers to bring aboard one free piece of cabin luggage (not exceeding 36x23X56cm in size) as well as a personal item such as a purse or laptop bag.

Reviews of this airline

  • AirAsia is a low-cost operator based in Malaysia which also runs branded carriers in other South and Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia and India. As it is a low-cost carrier, you should expect to pay around $30.00 for checked bags if you check them online ahead of time. If you're carrying excess baggage at the gate, you'll have to pay a similar fee for each piece that needs to be checked. That is both the setback and advantage to AirAsia...they charge fees for just about everything about basic A-to-B service. If you want to pick your seat or check bags, there's a fee; but, if you're a light packer and are looking for a cheap way to jet around Southeast Asia, AirAsia is probably your best bet.
