About American Airlines

American Airlines is one of the United States' largest air carriers and operates flights throughout the United States and internationally as a member of the Oneworld alliance. After a much-publicized bankruptcy in the 2011, the company merged with competitor US Airways to create the single largest airline company in the world. American Airlines offers a simple and intuitive website where users can purchase flight tickets, manage their bookings, for find answers to their doubts. The “Travel Information” section, for example, includes detailed information on American Airlines' baggage policy (current baggage fees: $25.00 for the first checked bag, $35.00 for the second, $150.00 for the third, and $200.00 for each additional bag) and pet policy (normally a $200.00 kennel fee and only available through select hub airports). The website's “Plan Travel” section also lets users see their reservation details, consult a flight tracker and view flight statuses, and complete an online check in. The website also has a section devoted specifically to its well-known AAdvantage frequent flyer rewards program. The program lets users accumulate miles based on their purchases and flights and redeem those miles for flights to national and international destinations (including with partner airlines), vacation packages, or flight upgrades.

Reviews of this airline

  • I know, I know...American Airlines has been almost universally panned in the flight review blogs, mostly due to its baggage fees which, to be fair, start out reasonably enough ($25.00 per bag) but reach up to $150.00 for the third checked bag. But still, American Airlines is one of the better domestic carriers in the US and never a bad choice if you're flying abroad. The company also recently swallowed US Airways so both companies are now covered by American's AAdvantage frequent flyer program. That means you'll now be getting a whole host of new options and trajectories to redeem your miles.
