Spirit Airlines is an low-cost carrier based in Miami, Florida and which operates discount flights throughout the continental US, Caribbean, and Mexico. Despite the low cost of flying with Spirit, the company has received overwhelmingly negative reviews due to its policy of charging fees (which many customers allege are hidden) for additional services such as in-flight drinks, physical check in, and checked baggage. The most contentious of Spirit's charged services is its baggage rules, though in reality the fee structure and policy are quite simple. The Spirit Airlines baggage policy is as follows: bags checked during the booking phase are subject to a $30.00 baggage fee while those checked during the online check in phase require a $40.00 bag fee. Bags checked at the airport desk cost $45.00. These fees are for the first piece of baggage; second checked bags follow the same guidelines yet cost $10.00 more ($40.00, $50.00, and $55.00, in this example.). Spirit, much to the chagrin of customers, is also one of the few companies to charge for carry-on luggage which cannot be stowed beneath a seat. The current carry on fees are $30.00, $40.00 and $50.00 for carry-on bags selected during the booking, online check in, and airport check in phases, respectively. In general, the Spirit Airlines website is a fun and user-friendly affair with clear buttons to check one's flight status, see the details of one's reservations, check in online, and print a boarding pass (passengers are required to print boarding passes before arrival at the airport for face a small fee).
Ciro Spirit is another of America's leading low-cost carriers and one which, unfortunately, seems to be held in the lowest esteem among regular travelers. The majority of the negative attention against Spirit comes from its baggage policy, and understandably so. Basically, they charge you between $20.00 and $35.00 for carry on bags, one of the few airlines to do so. They do, however, allow you to bring on a small personal item like a purse or backpack but if you're looking to bring along a small suitcase you'll probably have to fork over some cash. If you absolutely must check a bag and want to spend the least amount of money possible, make sure to declare and pay for your bag when you book your ticket. If you check your bag during the online check in process then you'll end up paying more. Delete
