About Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic is a British airline company which operates domestic flights as well as international routes to the Americas. The company was founded in 1984 and is partially owned by the American air carrier Delta. Like many new transatlantic carriers, Virgin Atlantic offers a multi-tier cabin class system with Economy, Premium Economy (complimentary drinks, laptop chargers, and exclusive check in options), and First Class (dubbed “Upper Class,” featuring private modules, fully-reclining seating, and gourmet meals) cabins. There is currently no Business Class on Virgin Atlantic flights, though the “Upper Class” cabin serves essentially the same purpose. Virgin Atlantic's full baggage policy (a current free checked baggage allowance of one bag per economy passenger on domestic and international flights) is available in the “Travel Information” section of the Virgin Atlantic website. The Virgin Atlantic website offers a clear user experience with a highlighted flight search module as well as easy-to-find buttons to check in online, view flight status, and see the details of one's reservations. The Virgin Atlantic website also offers complete information on the company's Flying Club frequent flyer program including a full list of partners including Delta

Reviews of this airline

  • I would venture to say that Virgin Atlantic is one of the best airlines for flying between the United States and Great Britain and a good choice for business travelers. If you're flying coach, I'd suggest getting an upgrade to the Premium Economy section. You'll get a designated fast-track check in area, lots more legroom, better dining options and, most importantly, the opportunity to select your own seat. The price is just a tad higher but the perks more than make up for it, especially if you're on an 8 to 10 hour transatlantic flight. Premium Economy flyers also get a free baggage allowance of two checked bags on all Virgin Atlantic routes.
