Barcelona, my city. It is not the reason why I think it is one of the most beautiful places in Spain. It really IS. It has culture, entertainment, the beach, etc. Plus it has El Bosque de las Hadas. A very special hidden café. It is like being in a magical tale. I wouldn't be surprised to bump into a unicorn all of a sudden...
The decoration is very elaborate and detailed: a small bed, a huge tree inside the café, low wooden tables and chairs. When I went a storm was simulated inside the place from time to time, leaving us astounded.
The only drawback is that it is so famous it is difficult to go and find a comfortable place to have a drink, but it is definitely worth the trouble.
A place to visit, walking on Las Ramblas, is the Pastelería Escribá. The beautiful modernist shop renovated in 1902 was the Casa Figueras and is now part of the modernist and gourmet routes. It is run by the family of the pastry cook Antonio Escribá, known at the time as the "Mozart of chocolate" and it now has a variety of traditional pastry products and a small terrace to taste it.
Once out of the metro station "Pep Ventura" on the right, there is a charming bakery/cafe called "La Boulangerie" where you can find all kinds of breads of different sizes, textures and shapes, plus an amazing assortment of homemade pastries and sandwiches. It's nice to get a coffee or have breakfast there, as the tables are wooden and the decor is very traditional and very charming! The service is good too! Whenever I go to Badalona, I love to go for coffee!
Located in the historic center of Mataro, this bakery is located in a modernist, late nineteenth century, space, the work of Josep Puig. Recently restored, it now looks splendid, the ornate decoration mosaics and wrought iron gothic motifs. The interior is simply overwhelming.
The Cafe Firenze is one of the best places in Sitges for a coffee with friends in pleasant surroundings. It is a very elegant, with a lovely decor and it is very cozy. The coffee is high quality, as are the pastries. They have a wide choice of water, which for me is great since I enjoy water more than coffee.Their is a very attentive service which makes you feel comfortable. Apart from all this, they also make chocolate fondue and prepare light dishes. It is very easy to find as it is situated on Main Street. It is one of the best coffee places in Sitges and, in my opinion, it is one of the places that make Sitges better than other towns on the Costa Dorada.
