Casa Plaza is a market and bakery where you can buy things and have a coffee. It's one of the best places to grab a coffee in Fortaleza, but leaves much to be desired when compared to bakeries in the south of the country, and other countries. The sweets are disappointing due to not much choice, but the savouries are great, as they have everything from cheese to tapioca bread.
An optimal option for those who are shopping at the night market in Meireles Beach in Forlaleza is to take a break from shopping and sit in Cafe Gelatto to rest and eat something. Gelatto Cafe is on the Avenida Beia Mar, 2800, in the Hotel Praiano, almost opposite the market. It's a very small place, with a few chairs and sofas available, however, the atmosphere is quiet, and the refined, elegant decoration was inspired in Colombo Confitera (Rio de Janeiro). The service is excellent and the price is high, but worth it to enjoy the delights of the coffee menu. The menu offers a mix of traditional dishes (pastries, milk shakes, cappuccino, etc.) and some new features, such as tapioca ice cream, coffee with sweet milk, sorbet with tapioca Paçoa. The place also offers a wide range of special sorbets, and a scoop costs R $ 12. A young man named Cesar makes most of these creations, and he loves to explain the origin of the dishes.
A great combination of bookshop and cafe, allowing you to spend an afternoon immersed in culture. It's a popular spot for friends, couples and families, with great staff. The Café is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 22h, and 14h- 20h Sundays and holidays.
