The Ballaro market is one of the most authentic in Palermo, while most tourists only visit the famous Vuccira market. The Ballaro market is located south of the Church of the Gesu and is a market where on the street you find stalls of meat, fish, vegetables and cheese. It is best to visit first thing in the morning.
Popular markets in old Palmero
The Vucciria market is one of the most touristic places in Palermo, perhaps because it is in the historic centre, between streets referencing "Via Roma" and "Vitorio Emanuele". This market that spans a lot of streets, and its activity takes place mainly during the morning. Due to one thing or another I did not see the market in full swing - the tourists were not there and some stalls were closed. There were still some stalls open, so we walked around. There was a great variety; from household junk, to sweets, to places where artichokes were cooked in large iron pots (I guess to be packaged later ), to warehouses where Palermitans delight in the wines. An interesting corner that should not be missed :).
The Flea Market is an interesting place situated near the center of Palermo. You can get there walking from anywhere downtown and no problem because it is known to all the inhabitants of the city. The market opens in the morning and in it you can find all sorts of things but, above all, antiques and handicrafts. The market has humble huts and each booth is open, and while touring the market you can go watch artisans at work. You can see classic trades that have an incredible charm, there are painters, artisans, carpenters, glaziers ... The objects that are available in this place are very varied but what stands out are antiques. There is really old furniture that have been restored and have become real gems, for example, we saw a restored antique globe that was really unique. The place does not stand out precisely because of the cleanliness and order, quite the contrary, but perhaps this is what also gives a special charm to the market. It is like you are stepping back in time and I recommend visiting this place and enjoying all it has to offer and all you can see. Great atmosphere and very well known.
