It was a long journey from Madrid to rest at the Ibis Setubal. We wanted to find something to eat, and we were quite clear that we wanted fish, and fresh! That was the challenge. So I opened Minube and we crossed our fingers that I would be able to solve the problem. There he was, with four or five super-positive comments of other consumers ve have eaten there before. Really great. Fresh fish and seafood, good portions served at a fair price. Before you even order anything they bring you some bowls of shrimp, octopus with vinaigrette and eggs with vinaigrette. The house wine was very good. The super friendly waiter explained each dish to us and challenged our culinary knowledge. We ate and drank for just under € 20 per head. We had food left over. For starters we had grilled sardines: 10 spectacular sardines for just € 9.5, then for the second course: Setubalense Caldeirada at € 28: it's like a zarzuela, really delicious seafood. And finally also for two: Rice Garoupa death was also € 28. It was a pity that they had ran out of chocolate mousse. Today I will go back and try the muscle, but I also want to try the fried choco Setubalense. You must go, you will not regret it.
The restaurant is great, we found it on Minube and ate there every day. The quality is exceptional and the prices are cheap. We were treated like kings the minute we walked in. They speak Spanish and English, and have menus in German and other languages. The fried choquiños al Antoniu's are a gastronomic delight, for example. They serve fresh fish and meat too, which in this area is not very common. The truth is that I thank Minube for finding it. Every night the waiter regaled us with a shot of liquor or with an unexpected dessert. Treatment, service and meal - all a 10.
We were looking for a good fish grill that was not too touristy for reasons of price, and by chance we found this place. They gave us three trays of grilled fish and a tapa of squid grilled in its own ink (delicious). All this, plus 5 cans of beer did not reach more than 30 euros for 2 people. Good fish at a good price ... Recommended 100%.
This interesting restaurant is located in Vila Nogueira de Azeitao, in the Sierra de la Arrabida. It's a small restaurant with creative and surprising cuisine, especially since the final price, for the quality, seemed cheap. It's simple, with modern and popular decor, close to the Casa Museo de las Bodegas Fonseca. I would emphasize ordering their special potatoes, their desserts and the wonderful white wine from the nearby winery. The service was exclusive with all sorts of explanations of the dishes, wines, etc. I have very good memories of this lovely Portuguese restaurant.
We had heard some great revues of this restaurant, which is situated very close to the football stadium of the city, hence its popularity, but we did not have a particularly great experience, for two main reasons: Smoke and heat. Normally in Portugal, all of the restaurants have grills, and you do not you realize that there is. But in this case from the moment that you enter the restaurant you can smell the smoke, it is a very uncomfortable feeling especially in the summer with the heat ... not to mention the "heady perfume" of charcoal grilling fish left in your clothes. The place is not conditioned for this type of cuisine. The fish is very fresh, but they take too much time to serve so when it finally arrives, you're sick of the unbreathable atmosphere. It is frequented by numerous groups which they give a special deal.
It is a sample of one of those places still untouched that you hope to find when you get to a city. The restaurant Cardador is a very simple place to eat fresh fish straight from the Atlantic and where you pretty much do it yourself. It has the charm of a simpler time and you get to meet the locals. I discovered it thanks to the hotel receptionist where I stayed in Setubal, and it really was a success. Their best dish is the grilled sardines, but you can choose from other succulent seafood. It's very hidden and you won't find it in travel guides. If visiting Setubal, make the effort to look for it, and you'll be pleasantly rewarded. By the way, the bottle of white wine with the fish is great. Highly recommended for budget travellers. It reminded me a lot for the stalls put up during festivals in Madrid, but with the charm of a place with character.
We strolled casually down the street and entered to enjoy feijoada for dinner. Delightful service and simple but high quality food. Many who pass down this street miss the restaurant, but it really is cozy and very cheap for the quality on offer. Try it!
