Cerro Castle is 94km south of Coyhaique in a small town that really surprised me, I really liked it. There are several camping sites and lots of youth from around the world who are touring the southern road and stay here a few days to share. The only thing you need to bring to Coyhaique are your good vibes. There is no supermarket, but there are rivers and mountains that stand next to the castle, there are several paths to get to it all that is cold even in summer.
After moving along the Carretera Austral this place is very good to rest and enjoy a magnificent lake. I spent two days here, it's cheap and great if you're looking for hassle free camping. You have everything you need and the people are very friendly. There is a tourist information centre where you can find out where to eat typical food of the area. You can buy even fresher fish on the walk down to the rowboats.
A typical villa which is a must if you are travelling along the southern highway either in a vehicle or on a backpacking or cycling adventure to buy something, stay there or for taking a rest. It is surrounded by pure and fast-flowing rivers ideal for fishing and magnificent mountains with lush forests. "El picacho" and "el colmillo" are two peaks that can be seen from the villa. There is a lake from which magnificent views can be contemplated. Mañihuales has apptoximately 2000 inhabitants and was founded in 1962. It is one of the thousands of places that the end of the world has to offer, great landscapes still preserved intact by man.
Villa Ohiggins is the last village on the South Austra Road road. It has everything the traveler needs, as well as trails with fantastic views. It is also easy to get to.. Similarly, it is a border town to cross to Argentina and you can also stop by the lake Ohiggins if you want to go to Fitz Roy or Chalte ....
