Although its difficult to leave the pretty town of Altea even for a little, one cloudy day I decided to go to Gaudalest, a town with a complex fortresses and fortified buildings is quite striking because of its specatular location in the valley, surrounded by the imposing Sierra mountains.
The Sierra imposes over you the second you leave you car and quickly becomes the protagonist of the landscape. It's highest peaks hang in the background at all times. Citris and almond trees grown on its terraced sides. The road to cross Algar river borders the Gaudalest river vally and takes you to Callosa d'en Sarria. Then you continue along the coast, surrounded by pine forests and palm trees, until arriving at the Castell de Gaudalest mideival fort.
Its haughty profile above the rocky crag is an unforgettable image. It's worth parking the car in town and walking the distance along the narrow roads and up to the old part through the tunnel. It was the only access way to the fortress for years. Once you're above, the views of the remains of the castle, the valley and the mountains are spectacular.
This is a very peaceful place with some really worthwhile views. It’s only 2km. from Dénia and has lots of pine forests and vegetation. It’s an ideal place to go for a walk and enjoy the tranquil environment and beautiful sunsets.
Situated 30 kilometers away from the old town you can find the coast of Orihuela. It is a large area of open beaches with fine white sand and clear water, that forms cliffs and small coves. Here you will find beaches such as Zenia, a unique setting for surf lovers, Playa Flamenca, Punta Prima, Cabo Roig and Campoamor. It is a municipality offering beaches, which rises within the Costa Blanca and garden surrounded by mountains, and whose village is declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
This lively city retains a remarkable old town, on the slope of a hill crowned by Atalaya Castle (which was built by the Arabs and has an impressive tower). It also has two Gothic churches: Santa Maria - built on the old mosque, and Santiago - a national monument with amazing columns. Nearby is City Hall and a sixteenth century which houses the Archaeological Museum José María Soler (who found a treasure of silver and gold pieces from the Bronze Age). There's also an interesting museum dedicated to the famous "Moors and Christians" festival held in early September. Biar can be located within Alicante, and is lively with an enormous imposing castle, traditional streets and various monuments, including an aqueduct on the outskirts, arches, a main church, some restaurants and nearby there is a pine forest and recreation area with picnic tables where visitors can take ready made food. In the recreational area there is a monastery.
Do not forget to try the gachamiga, a local specialty. Novelda is a lovely place to visit in mid-July, coinciding with the local festival of St. Mary Magdalene. You must also see the beautiful and unique three-cornered castle of La Mola, and the sanctuary. Enjoy it.
It's the capital of a district of Arab farmsteads and after the Reconquista, the Moorish remained a significant population in its oldest neighborhood, El Raval. Later, a wall was built around the Christian quarter and they built the counts palace and the two churches, El Salvador and La Asunción. Next to the palace is the convent of Las Clarisas and you can wander around a set of pleasant streets, such as Main Street, that has some ceramic facades decorated with religious themes. Outside of the medieval enclosure is Franciscan convent and an old Arabic castle.

Ibi is a village that has grown in recent times. The Chorro neighborhood, sandwiched between the church and the castle, is the only thing that reminds us of the old historic town of Ibi. The castle is protected by its tremendous height and is well preserved. You can enjoy panoramic views.
This is a former summer resort of the inhabitants of Alicante city. It has has a church of the XVI century, topped by a Gothic tower.
