Near Abobo to the south we found a spectacular dam. It's not finished and I don't think it ever will be. It is a dam that was built by Mengistu, a military, political and Ethiopian communist dictator, head of state of this country from 1977 to 1991, sometimes called Red Negus. The plan was for reservoir pipes for water to reach the cotton plantations nearby, but unfortunately, because when Mengistu fell the next ruler refused to continue the work, so everything was as you can see today. It is a beautiful place to live for many species of animals, including crocodiles. This dam is also used by the Ethiopians to fish, so it is usual to see small boats.
