1 review of Akaroa Lighthouse

A Plain Lighthouse, but Very Beautiful

The Akaroa Lighthouse could be found on the Akaroa Banks Peninsula, to the east of the port of Akaroa. Construction on the lighthouse began in 1880 and then it opened the following year with a lens that was made in France and Scotland especially for this mechanism. The tower is hexagonal, at 12.5 meters high and 5.49 meters wide. It is 80 meters tall. In 1977 the lighthouse stopped working and it was moved to the preserve in Akaroa Harbor, near the cemetery. Although it's always sad to see a light that does not work, this is very well preserved and is lit on special occasions. It can also be visited during the weekends.
