Al Qal’a de Beni Hammad

1 review of Al Qal’a de Beni Hammad

A vivid representation of islamic culture

This place is located close to the town of Bechara, about 225 km. southeast of Algiers. On this site remain the ruins of the first capital of the emirs of Hammadid, it is a place of special beauty that has more than a thousand years of age and is surrounded by wonderful and impressive hills. It originally was a fortified city, the most interesting part of this construction is its mosque, which has a prayer hall that consists of 13 ships and which is considered to be one of the largest of Algeria, the minaret is attached to the building and is built from blocks of sand and still has some traces of blue ceramic tile decoration which a while ago decorated the walls.
