Ampenan Port

The Port of Ampenan in the capital of Lombok, Mataram, was once a port of great activity, but now, there are just fishing boats and other freighters. However, from the port, you can hire boats to visit nearby islands. Mataram is located on the west side of Lombok, and is the capital and the largest city of the province of Nusa Tenggara Barat. Three cities make up the urban area, which, from west to east, are Ampenan (where the port is located), Mataram, and Cakranegara. Walking through Ampenan, you can still find buildings with a mix of Chinese, Arabic and Malay architecture. You can eat seafood in a kind of local restaurant with large stone basins where you choose the seafood you want and how you want it cooked.
