Basse-Terre Island

Guadalupe Island is formed by two large, butterfly-shaped islands called Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre and joined by a narrow canal called the Riviere Salee. The island of Basse-Terre is on the left side of this butterfly, has an area of 848 km2 and is the largest of the Lesser Antilles. The central part is formed by the Guadalupe National Park, which is a dense green rainforest, where rivers form wonderful natural waterfalls and cascades.
