Campamento Tortuguero de Ventanilla

Ventanilla is a small village in the municipality of Santa María Tonameca on the coast of Oaxaca. There is a Turtle Camp that seeks to preserve turtle eggs when turtles come to nest at this beautiful beach. June sees the greatest number of turtles but from late March (when these pictures were taken) you can begin to see turtles. The camp counts on the help of volunteers (particularly from the University of Oaxaca) to monitor and protect nests (with barbed wire to prevent widespread looting).
