1 review of Old Inverlochy Castle

Well preserved ruins

This Fort William landmark, Inverlochy Castle, is now in ruins but was one of the most important in the history of Scotland. Built in a strategic location with natural protection against attackers thanks to the hills and the River Lochy, it was key to the development of the town of Fort Williams. Raised in the thirteenth century, it had a very important role in the Civil Wars of the mid-seventeenth century, when followers of the Earl of Montrose faced followers of the Duke of Argyll. The ruins that remain are well-preserved, with several parts of the original walls and wooden beams still visible.
