Dolmens

This area has one of the most representative sights of the Extremadura forest: the El Mellizo Dolmen, one of the most famous dolmens in Extremadura which dates back over 4000 years. It is one of 41 dolmens standing in the Valencia de Alcántara area and there are routes which take hikers back thousands of years in time. During the early history of Extremadura, nomadic tribes wanted to mark the territories through which they passed (the building of the dolmen) which led to a natural desire to also possess and colonize the lands. Lucky for them, they were in Extremadura where the weather’s nice!
