Dr. Alipio de Melo Square

1 review of Dr. Alipio de Melo Square

A new and modern square

The new square Dr. Alipio de Melo Gouveia is at one of the entrances to the Natural Park of "Serra da Estrela", towards the entrance/exit of the village, a few meters from old St. Peter's Square. This town, in central Portugal, is based economically in textiles (clothing, weavers, spinners), hence in this square is a granite sculpture of a man spinning/weaving, as well as a great fountain in a cascade, surrounded by plants and some old trees. This plaza sculpture called "Weaver" was opened in August 2005 and is named after D. Alipio de Melo, the former director of a textile company known Gouveia.
