Equestrian Statue of Charles III

4 reviews of Equestrian Statue of Charles III

Statue of Carlos III

This very famous statue so many people take a picture of represents Carlos III. It is located in front of the Puerta del Sol of Madrid and is made out of bronze, work of Miguel Ángel Rodríguez and Eduardo Zancada.

Did you know Carlos III was considered the best mayor of the city, but that he actually never held that position? The statue was built in his honor.

Millions of tourists pass through the square every day. You can see them taking pictures with this well known and nice 'face' of Madrid. And I am sure you will also take one if you ever come...

The statue is 4,35 meters high and weighs 2,5 tons. And, moreover, the stone on which the statue lies weighs 66 tons!

Essential spot to visit in Madrid due to its historical background. The Puerta del Sol is also the centre (km 0) of the network of Spanish roads.
