Phaistos Archaeological Site

The setting of this Minoan archaeological site is fantastic. Great views across to Mount Ida and surrounded by olive groves. The importance of olive oil on Crete is clear and this has been so for thousands of years as demonstrated by the large ceramic jars found around the site.

The Minoans built the site in the second millennium BC. The famous Phaistos disk was found here. It can be seen in the Heraklion archaeological museum, which is well worth a visit.
