Huge squatted social center in Lavapies
La Quimera de Lavapies is a popular squat and social center (or CSOA, as they’re known locally) in Madrid’s multicultural and politically-active neighborhood of Lavapies. It’s actually something of a squat super-group as it was born from the ashes of several other popular Lavapies squats like CSOA Casablanca and Malaya which had been shut down over the years. Today, the Quimera de Lavapies functions as a self-run social center offering up workshops on activities as diverse as sign language, screen-printing, and theater as well as the usual CSOA staples like free stores, free libraries and vegan potlucks.
