The Mother Church of Our Lady of Conception is in the historic area of Portimão and it was built in 1476 on the initiative of Gonçalo Vaz de Castelo Branco, but rebuilt in the XVIII century. The most recent reform is being done now, so it's closed to the public and for worship. From its initial construction a beautiful Gothic portal remains that is decorated with capitals and gargoyles. Externally the most striking aspect is the baroque bell tower that's visible from different parts of the city.
