I was left speechless by the beauty of this place. The castle is straight out of a fairy-tale and the area is just gorgeous. I recommend visiting it, but also stopping at the Marienbrüke Bridge to get the best views of this 200 year old castle and the Alps in the background. It's history and nature coming together in the most wonderful way!
We started out with a swim in Lake Alpsee, although it may have been illegal. Regardless, the lake in September was refreshing and tranquil, the opposite of the crowds awaiting the hike to the castle. The hike was scenic and we decided to get spontaneous again with a off trail hike into the woods and having a picnic and a nap.
After making it to the castle, the views and the interior were stunning. You are not permitted to photograph inside the castle. After Neuschwanstein we ventured to Tyrol. Pictures coming soon.
As you may know, this castle inspired Walt Disney and I can honestly see why...it's magical! It's unlike any castle I've ever seen. Inside, there are lots of peaceful paintings and a huge variety of styles. I thought the history of the crazy king was also interesting and how he built it for pure aesthetics rather than any kind of strategic importance. The views from the castle are stunning.
What to say about this place that all the other comments haven't said already? Especially after reading the comment of Alejandra Barrena, which uses the words "a fairy tale". I could not describe it better. It is a dream place, surrounded in nature, mountains, ohhhh the mountains? Towering mountains, covered in forests, from spring to late summer, all you see is green, life and color, and from mid-autumn and winter, the white color leaves you speechless. It is a beautiful place. But don't let this top yopu from visiting the town of Füssen, which is 4 miles from the castle, and you have to catch the bus that takes you to the castles of the town.
It was my dream to visit this place. It was a fantastic experience. Not only is the castle awesome, but the views around it, too.
