Old Town Ribeira Grande

Ribeira Grande is the loveliest village of Sao Miguel, with a garden parallel to the river just before it flows into the ocean, the bridge of the 8 eyes, and architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries between narrow streets. The parish church of s Espírito Santo XVII with its baroque facade is one of the most amazing on the island, and the rest of the village is also Baroque Manueline. It was a very successful village in the 18th century through workshops linen and wool spinning and it demonstrates a decadent rich Portuguese air.
