Pontevedra, the capital of the eponymous province, is a charming town in the heart of the Rias Baixas in Galicia, at the bottom of the Pontevedra estuary. It has a milder climate and less rain than other areas of Galicia. Its beautiful old town, the famous Church of the Pilgrim, the peaceful park, the shopping centre, the bull ring, its arcades, its popular terraces, and its churches make this city one of the most interesting in the Spanish northwest. It's a very quiet town of only 75,000 residents, which has been heavily influenced throughout history by the Portuguese Way of Saint James, that passes through it.
