Beautiful sculptures

At the entrance of the Isurumuni temple of rock, there is a large swimming pool on the right. The temple is southeast of the city of Anuradhupura and you have to take a tuk tuk to go there because it's too far to walk. Above the water tank, there are some beautiful sculptures of bathing elephants, and above the stairs, there are more sculptures of a man sitting on a throne and a horse's head. It is thought that the upper sculpture is of Agni and Parjanya Parjanya, the god of rain. Elephants below represent clouds. In the middle ages, Sri Lanka built an ingenious irrigation system to transport water to its inhabitants, like in these tanks, which are frequently renewed.
