4 reviews of Ramen Kagura

Hot, satisfying ramen in downtown Madrid

Ok, let's get one thing straight right off the bat: this is not the kind of high-end, gourmet ramen joints so in vogue in many of the world's great culinary capitals. If you're looking for Madrid's answer to Momofuku, you'll probably be sorely disappointed. That being said, if you're in the mood to slurp up some hot, tasty ramen, prepared correctly, in an unpretentious and casual environment, Kagura Ramen is the place.

The menu is fairly simple: 4-5 starters like rice-battered chicken and "gyoza" (Japanese pot-stickers) and a basic set of ramen choices. Most come with seaweed, braised pork, scallions, and egg, but you can personalize your order a bit with various sauces, miso, and extra portions. If you've been out exploring the bars in the nearby La Latina neighborhood, Kagura is a good option to get something hot and satisfying at the end of the night. The prices are reasonable (8-10 euros for a bowl of ramen, and 5 euros for a starter of gyoza) and, while it's not the most authentic place in the world (you're in Madrid, after all), it is popular among the younger set of Madrid's Asian immigrant community...never a bad sign.
