The Chilean Araucaria

The Araucaria, also called by the natives the Pehuen, is a tree native to Chile. It grows to about 50 feet high, but its growth is very slow, for this reason Araucaria have been found up to 1000 years old. Very common in the arauco hence its name, there are also very large areas of protected arucarias in the natural park. they only can grow at 800 feet above sea level. The natives harvest their seeds to use as food.
