Trieste is the capital of the independent region of Venezia Giula, and is in northeast Italy. It's close to the triple border of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. It's a medium size city of 260,000 inhabitants, and I personally found that there was a lot of "dolce vita", and it was very romantic. It has a fairly large industrial harbour and the old town itself is rather small. But there are many points of interest, like museums, Revoltella, an art museum, history museum, and natural history museum. The city has also a beautiful aquarium. The Roman Theatre dates from the 1st century, as does the Arc of Ricardo, an arch built by the Romans and the emperor Augustus.
