Vardzia

Vardzia is a lost place and is little-known. It is located in south-east of Georgia, near the border with Armenia. It is a very important place in the history of this country, and when you think about it, you can imagine how Vardzia would be in order to give refuge to 40,000 people in the case of an invasion. It was later that Tamar, daughter of King George III who built Vardzia, finished turning it into a monastery. To this day some monks still live in this city which is built on the mountain rock.
