Xiamen International Youth Hostel

This hostel is located in Xiamen University, slightly out of the center but accessible in just 15-20 minutes by bus (1 yuan per journey). It may seem an odd choice in some ways away, but the good atmosphere and the services offered outweigh that. Anyway, since when is 15 minutes on a bus a long time in a city of almost 1.4 million people? The hostel is very nice, the rooms are clean and there is wifi on the ground floor (plus a small netbook for quick reference if you don't have your own computer). It also has a small garden terrace where it is tempting to while away the hours over a beer, but beware at night the mosquitoes do not forgive - the mosquitoes of Fujian Province are terrible, I assure you.
