Andijk

Great

Andijk is a Dutch town on Lake IJssel, in the province of North Holland. The name comes from the German Andijk "aan de dijk" which means "in the dam". In 1667 a small church was built, which can be seen at the bottom of the photograph. During the Napoleonic French occupation, Andijk became an independent town on January 1, 1812 by imperial decree on October 21, 1811. Andijk has fertile clay soil, which is used for agriculture and horticulture. It is also a major supplier of drinking water for the surrounding areas.
