This accommodation seems like a fairy tale. It's a small wooden house with a kitchenette and a family atmosphere. It's located in Picton, a small town that owes its existence to the ferry terminal where boats arrive from Wellington. It also has a train station where freight is loaded and unloaded onto the ferry, and tourists going by train to the Chrishtchurch seaside resort.

Furneaux is a strange place because it's a luxury hotel that also offers lodging for backpackers. In reception they are cautious, but the reality is that they make more money off backpackers because they put 20 people in a shack. It's 1 € per shower with hot water and they can eat in the bar at prices meant not just for backpackers. The other nearest bar is 12 kilometres away and it's just as expensive.
The Punga Cove Resort is a luxury hotel in many terrace levels of a hill, with access by car to the top, and boat and walking the Queen Charlotte Track at the bottom. Backpackers and employees have the same facilities, bathrooms and and kitchen, and though the rooms are small, there are just 2 beds and the views are great.
