35 reviews of Akihabara

A bohemian neighborhood

It is a quintessential bohemian neighborhood. A place for geek souls the world over. A commercial neighborhood specializing in gadgets, comics, manga, anime, video games, computers, dvds ... It is the perfect place to stroll and spend hours between harbor shops and cult products. It is also a place full of young people and lots of activity. It's one of those places you have to visit at least once in your life.

Excellent

I stayed in the area in the Akihabara Wahington hotel and had an excellent experience. The area is really easy to navigate with access to the hibiya subway line and JR lines. The area is a dazzling array of neon lights and music. Don't be afraid to enter any of the back alleys or streets as they often are home to excellent shops. Try your hand at any of the arcades with games ranging from claw machines to the latest computer games. Tall high rises are home to not only the arcades but also a multitude of otaku merchandise.

Home to all things geek

Akiharara is the bustling shopping area of Tokyo which caters to the geek/otaku community. Multi-storey buildings packed with manga comics, videos, robots, action figures and related merchandise. You cannot help but be transfixed by the endless rows of cute boy celebrity badges. Outside in the street winsome maids try to tempt you to enter the maid cafes. Overwhelming but fun!
