In Corfu, there are two fortresses which display their strategic character. One is called the old or ancient fortress. It's on a rocky ledge in the east of the city and is separated by a moat. It is an 8th century Byzantine construction that was completed in the 15th century during the Venetian domination. You can climb up to the top where there is a lighthouse overlooking the whole city.
