Bastions and walls

The town of Porto-Vecchio is full of history. Known for being impregnable to the Genoese, few vestiges remain of the empire of the city. Little is visible at first glance, there are some remains of its citadel that was built by the Genoese: walls and five bastions at each corner of the city. Of the 5 bastions, three are private, one is in ruins and you can only visit the bastion of France. All dry stone, red and gray granite, it was restored in 1980. Today it hosts exhibitions in the summer and artistic events. As for the walls, they have become homes! As surprising as it may seem, at one time they were emptied and converted into housing when there was a need of it.
