Major Caribbean cruise stop
Castries port receives cargo vessels, ferries and cruise ships. Its sheltered location on the Vigie peninsula (close to the airport) at the foot of Morne Fortune hill was the main reason the French chose to found a city here in 1650. Castries has become a major Caribbean cruise stop, especially from October to April. In Bananes Bay there are two berths for cruise ships: Le Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphine .
