Cathedral San Francisco

1 review of Cathedral San Francisco

Italian Grandeur

The exterior is not particularly striking. It doesn't even look like a cathedral, or a fortress. It's tan bricks don't stand out in a city made of marble and granite to make the ideal port conceived by Medici. In contrast, its interior has very high ceilings, making it slightly cold. Lights and votive candles attenuate the feeling with some warmth, and there are many altarpiece of the most varied forms and styles. It was a joint effort of the best craftsmen in the area to rebuild it after the bombings of WWII. Sadly, its gold wooden roof, which was impossible to rebuild, will be missed forever.
