Central Market

Though this isn't a tourist site, it's worth taking a tour of the central market of Tozeur. If you go to the Medina, enter the arc Habib Bourguiba Avenue that leads directly to the Place Ibn Chabbat. It's a food market where the local people make everyday purchases. There are stalls selling fruit and vegetables, spices, fish and meat. It's very busy and just by entering, the noise increases considerably with the shopkeepers' screams to get the attention of potential buyers. The most interesting thing are the raw camel or cow meat displays, which are identified by the respective animal's head hanging from the ceiling.
