1 review of Church of Szekelydalya Daia

Transylvanian church

The village of Daia, also known as Székelydálya is in Ighe river valley at 500 meters above sea level, in Transylvania. Its church was built at the beginning of the 13th century. It's considered to be one of the most important monuments in the region historically. The Szeklers, a Hungarian people, came from Asia Minor to settle in the plains of the region, and lived here in almost autarky, retaining their language and traditions to this day. The church is small and surrounded by a fortification, where locals took refuge in case of attack. The church is 250 m squared. The bell tower was built between 1799 and 1804.
