Countess Mumadona Memorial

This monument is in the square of the same name, opposite the Palace of Justice. It was made in 1960 and is a cast bronze sculpture of Condesa Mumadona Días on a pedestal. The Countess is a historical figure of great importance in Guimarães as she was responsible for founding the city, she commanded a monastery to be built (now the Consistorial building) and the Castillo de San Mamede, around which the population settled in the X century. She carries in her hands a cross and a kind of model of the castle.
