Domaine d'Abbadia

An absolutely spectacular journey where you can lose yourself all afternoon. There are lots of ways to go alone or with a guide. Shortly after starting the course you become the magnificent "Château" (palace) of Antoine d'Abbadie. A site well worth visiting, for less than 7 €. It's located along the coast, on the road between Hendaye with Ziburu. On our tour, we saw it from the bottom end of the well maintained grounds. We made our way by choosing one of the paths. All the sites were magnificent. I particularly liked sitting down in one of the old bunkers facing the sea. One of them had a wind rose on top.

Abbadia Castle is an architectural marvel. Besides being located right on the seafront and offering stunning views over Hendaye, the nineteenth century castle has an unusual architectural style, somewhat reminiscent of the famous Hogwarts from Harry Potter. It was built by Antoine d'Abbadie, who was inspired to design the castles and fortresses of the Middle Ages and during his travels. Currently houses an ancient astronomical observatory (in fact, the castle was donated to the Academy of Sciences) and the chapel in where Antoine d'Abbadie is buried). I was here about a year and a half ago and I was pregnant and despite any of the comments the guide made to me, the castle was phenomenal. What caught my attention the most was that I could see Mt. Antoine Larun from any of the rooms of the castle and if you go you can see a series of holes scattered around it. My intention was to observe the stars without having to download the various parts of the castle observatory. There areholes that follow the same path, if you look you won't find them.. One thing that caught my attention was a legend in Basque which is located on the right side of the entrance to the castle and reads: "ez ez ikusi ikasi" translated into Castilian means I do not see, do not learn.
