Statue Of Pope John Paul II

This monument stands in the atrium of the Cathedral of Santa Maria. It consists of a bronze bust of the pontiff, which stands on a pedestal with a carved circular base. The monument was unveiled in 2008, in memory of the first visit of Pope John Paul II to the Dominican capital in January, 1979 (he came twice more, in 1984 and 1992).
