1 review of Kourós Statues

Kouros collection

This museum has an important collection of kouros (Greek statues of men, the archaic period). As people accustomed to seeing Roman copies of Greek sculpture, this collection of well-preserved in the sixth century BC draws the viewer. Coarse features, a hieratic expression, the rudeness of movemens ... Different to late statues, the archaic kouros had a religious function very close to the earth forces, less about formal perfection or beauty and more about symbolism and the touch of divinity. Do not miss the huge head that presides over the room!
