1 review of Louis Armstrong Park

Named after a legend

If you walk through the French Market, you'll reach a dead-end road. Look to your right, and you'll find yourself right in front of the Louis Armstrong Park. As you'd expect from the name, this park has a musical theme that fits this city. It's full of bridges, gardens and allegorical sculptures of musicians like Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bichet. It's also home to some important places, including the Mahalia Jackson Theatre (named after a gospel singer who fought for civil rights), Congo Square (where former slaves gathered on Sundays to dance and sing, in a precursor to jazz and blues), and the birthplace of Louis Armstrong.
